Willem en Mary, Den Haag en Londen

Noel Ross-Russell publiceerde zijn historische roman The Orange Rose in Den Haag, niet alleen omdat hij daar woont maar ook omdat het boek de banden tussen Engeland en Nederland, Den Haag en Londen ten tijde van de Glorious Revolution beschrijft.

Bij de dubbele kroning van Willem en Mary in Londen in 1689 wordt Willem behalve Stadhouder van Holland ook koning van Engeland en beseft hij dat samenwerking tussen die landen beide voordeel kan opleveren.

Door de beschrijving van historische Haagse figuren en plaatsen, zoals Hans Willem Bentinck en Antonius Heinsius, het Binnenhof en Sorghvliet, roept Ross-Russell een fascinerende episode in de Haagse geschiedenis op. 13.30u, Nutshuis.

William and Mary, The Hague and London

Noel Ross-Russell published his historical novel The Orange Rose in The Hague, not only because he lives there but also because it tells the story of the strong relations between England and The Netherlands, The Hague and London in the days of the Glorious Revolution. The double coronation of William and Mary in London in 1689 marks the beginning of a period in which William is both King of England and Stadholder of The Netherlands, and he realizes that cooperation between the two nations can benefit both.  With the depiction of historical Hague figures and places, like Hans Willem Bentinck and Antonius Heinsius, The Binnenhof and Sorghvliet, Ross-Russell touches a fascinating part of Hague history.
