About the day

How can I participate?

On Saturday, April 18 the centre of The Hague History Day and all its activities is Plein, the square adjacent to Binnenhof. Here you’ll find the historical market with stalls representing all our heritage partners. They will provide you with the information and tickets for the various tours and lectures. Apart from this you will find a plethora of activities on Plein itself such as music, workshops, street acts and catering. Under “Programme” on this website you will find the complete guide to all events and entertainment as well as time schedules and fees if applicable.

Note: for excursions, guided tours and attending lectures, tickets are obligatory. They can be obtained at the historical market at the stand of the heritage partner in charge of the activity. We update our Facebook page regularly. Check it out for the latest news.

Who are the participating heritage partners?

About 25 associations that specialize in specific fields and eras of Hague history will be present. Many are run by volunteers. The municipal Archeological and Heritage Conservation departments as well as The Hague Historical Museum are partners of The Hague City Archives and represented as such. Other Hague museums and heritage institutions also participate in The Hague History Day. In the pogramme, you will find all participating organizations listed.

Why a Hague History Day?

The purpose of this special day is to inspire and familiarize all Hague residents with the opulent and remarkable history of the city and to let them discover for themselves. For this very reason The Hague Municipal Archives has been organizing The Hague History Day for over a decade. What are the origins of the royal court, the initial settlement on the shore and its residents rich and poor? This year the heritage partners in The Hague will once more collaborate in encouraging and helping you discover and understand your city.

We would love to meet you at Plein on Saturday, April 18!
